What is self-sabotage? Self-sabotage is the devil with a pitchfork perched on your shoulder. It's that uncomfortable feeling of shame you experience when you realize you need to submit your research paper by tomorrow, yet every fiber of your being urges you to watch Netflix instead. Self sabotage is a bitch, but you can be the bigger bitch and here’s how!
Diving into Root Causes
Here’s the thing self sabotage can be fixed! Although if i’m being honest it’s more than likely something that you’ll have to overcome more than once. There is no magic pill that you can take that will allow you to have a quick fix. Being able to overcome self sabotage is 100% going to be something that requires a mental shift. It takes a change in your perspective and mindset. You have to change how you feel about yourself. The root cause of self sabotage is the unconscious belief that you cant do something or will fail if you take that leap of faith. It’s basically your brain’s way of trying to protect yourself.
Our brains are wired to protect us from danger. So essentially that means that in order to make a change you have to first learn how to trust yourself. Somehow maybe either in childhood or sometime in the past more than likely you learned that you can not trust your decision making. Due to this unconscious belief you start to second guess yourself. The second guessing is what creates the indecision which then leads to... you guessed it self sabotage. And because we have wired our brain to not be trusting of our decisions this causes the mental delay which leads to procrastination. So lets change that up babe.
1. Change Your Inner Dialogue
The way you talk to yourself can really set the tone for your life. It’s like the mental story to your daily hustle. If you’re stuck in that victim mindset, you might catch yourself saying things like, “I can’t,” “I’m not enough,” or “Everything’s stacked against me.” That’s heavy mental baggage to be carrying around and you wonder why you always feel drained! You need to do yourself a favor and start journaling down your feelings but that’s a different topic for another day.
So Change those thoughts girly! Instead of letting those negative vibes take over, why not celebrate your growth? Start swapping out those defeatist phrases for something more empowering. Try saying, “I’m learning,” “I’ve got this,” or “The universe is on my side.” It’s like upgrading your mentality from a drug store lipstick to a Sephora lippie!. Suddenly, you’re moving with purpose, navigating your mental landscape with confidence and resilience..
So, challenge that inner critic and sprinkle some self-love on top! The way you chat with yourself could be the secret sauce to your happiness and success!
2. Shift the vibe
Baby Girl it’s time to fill your day with positivity. Let go of the negative energy. Sometimes that comes in the form of media like what your watching, social media, music, etc. Your mind is always on! You cant change your inner dialogue if your constantly tuned into so many different channels lol Kind of think of your mind like a radio. If your trying to focus on tuning into one frequency, its counter productive to be engaging in so many different forms of negativity. Only consume positive content! That is crucial. Guard your mind because believe it or not, you become what you consume. Kind of like you are what you eat? This same logic goes for your mindset as well. So cleanse that social media timeline sis and stop listening to trap music. Glorilla can wait.
3. Learn to build self trust
Developing self-trust is essential for achieving any goal. If you lack confidence in yourself, how can you expect to succeed? Without self-trust, your aspirations will always seem out of reach. So, how can you cultivate more trust in yourself? It's quite simple—it mirrors the way you learn to trust others. You wouldn't rely on someone who consistently breaks their promises to you, right? Treat yourself with the same respect. Start small by establishing a daily routine. The cornerstone of building self-trust is keeping the promises you make to yourself. Once you set your routine, strive to follow through. For instance, if you commit to finishing your research paper by Wednesday, make sure it gets done—no excuses! Failing to meet your own expectations invites doubt, leading to a cycle of negativity and procrastination.
Remember to extend grace to yourself amidst all of this. You are not a robot; you are human. Building self-trust and forming new habits takes time. If you stumble, please forgive yourself and keep pushing forward.. Always remember you have to become your own best friend. Speak to yourself kindly, Be confident and you will reach your goals. Self sabotage is a bitch but you can be the baddest bitch and kick her to the curb lol
